Medical Microinstruments (MMI) announced the first clinical use of its new NanoWrist dissection instruments and Synaptix digital surgery platform at Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London. These innovations expand capabilities of the Symani robotic microsurgery system.
NanoWrist instruments—scissors and forceps—are the first fully wristed robotic tools designed for precise dissection and delicate tissue manipulation in open microsurgery, aiding procedures like vessel preparation and tissue resection.
Synaptix offers data-driven visual enhancements and workflow integration, aiming to reduce variability, streamline setup, and improve autonomy in the operating room.
MMI received FDA de novo clearance for Symani in April 2024. The limited European launch precedes full commercial release.
CEO Mark Toland emphasized these advancements mark critical “firsts” beyond anastomosis, enhancing precision and control across more open microsurgical procedures.
