Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) in west Wales has partnered with Better to roll out an electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) system, replacing traditional paper-based processes in hospitals. The digital platform aims to improve medication safety by ensuring prescriptions are clear and complete, incorporating safety checks for allergies and dosage.
The initiative is part of Wales’ national Digital Medicines programme led by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW), which supports safer, more efficient medication management across the healthcare system. This marks Hywel Dda UHB’s entry as the fourth health board in Wales to adopt the technology.
Officials highlight that ePMA will enhance communication among clinical teams, reduce medication errors, and streamline workflows, ultimately improving patient care for the region’s 385,000 residents.
