Johnson & Johnson MedTech (NYSE: JNJ) unveiled the Polyphonic AI Fund for Surgery, an initiative to accelerate AI development addressing challenges before, during, and after surgery. The effort includes key partners Nvidia and Amazon Web Services (AWS), combining expertise in AI infrastructure, cloud computing, and surgical innovation.
The fund targets support for AI model development, data engineering, and governance, emphasizing responsible data use and collaboration. Through the QuickFire Challenge program, Johnson & Johnson will offer grants up to $100,000 and expert mentorship to selected researchers, startups, and companies—both academic and commercial.
Building on a prior partnership with Nvidia in surgical robotics, this initiative aims to enhance surgical video data science by creating annotated datasets and establishing governance frameworks for AI models in the operating room.
“Open innovation and open minds breed the best solutions in service of patients,” said Hani Abouhalka, chair of Surgery at Johnson & Johnson MedTech. The fund seeks to deliver AI solutions that improve surgical outcomes worldwide by leveraging the digital ecosystem of Johnson & Johnson MedTech and its partners.
