Orthopedic implant maker Life Spine has filed a lawsuit against its former CEO, Michael Butler, alleging financial misconduct and theft of trade secrets. The complaint, filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois (Case No. 2025 CH 06287), accuses Butler of diverting company funds through a sham importer he allegedly controlled, as well as misusing over $1 million for personal expenses, including luxury items and a Porsche for his spouse.
Life Spine further alleges that Butler retained sensitive intellectual property after his termination in March 2025 and attempted to sabotage business relationships and transactions by sharing confidential information. The company claims he interfered with overseas manufacturing partnerships and strategic deals.
“Life Spine takes seriously its duty to protect its employees, partners, and customers from any misconduct that threatens our operations,” a company spokesperson stated.
