Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is trialing a new AI-powered chest X-ray tool that promises faster, more accurate diagnoses for over 135,000 patients annually. Developed by Annalise.ai and deployed via Newton’s Tree, the software identifies up to 85 clinical findings in minutes—ranging from lung cancer to misplaced breathing tubes.
Backed by the NHS AI Diagnostic Fund and the Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative, this large-scale evaluation highlights AI’s growing role in frontline care. The tool acts as a “second pair of eyes,” improving clinical decision-making, boosting patient safety, and helping prevent complications like ‘never events’.
“This is about putting patients first,” said Dr. Fahmid Chowdhury, Clinical Lead at LTHT. Early results suggest the system enhances diagnostic speed and precision, laying the groundwork for wider AI integration in routine NHS diagnostics.
