Phasix ST gains FDA clearance, hits U.S. market
BD has launched Phasix ST, the first fully absorbable hernia patch designed specifically for umbilical hernia repair, following FDA 510(k) clearance.
The patch is made from Poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB)—a biologically-derived, bioabsorbable material—and includes a hydrogel barrier based on Sepra technology. The company says this combination offers a reliable alternative to permanent mesh while matching the form and technique of its widely used Ventralex ST patch.
Key Features:
- Absorbable patch mimics placement of traditional mesh
- Includes pocket and strap design for better positioning
- Enables surgeons to use existing techniques
“This is a milestone in hernia repair innovation,” said Ron Silverman, BD CMO, highlighting BD’s commitment to biomaterial-driven solutions.
