Company President Randy Clark to take over COO responsibilities in April 2025
Vicarious Surgical (NYSE: RBOT) announced that John Mazzola, its chief operating officer (COO), plans to retire on April 1, 2025. Mazzola will continue in his role until then, at which point Randy Clark, the company’s president, will assume COO responsibilities.
Mazzola’s Legacy at Vicarious Surgical:
- Joined Vicarious in 2022 as SVP of operations before being promoted to COO in May 2023.
- Boasted nearly 40 years in the medical device industry, with involvement in over 25 product launches.
- Previously held senior executive roles at BD, including VP of operations for its surgery business.
CEO Adam Sachs expressed gratitude for Mazzola’s leadership in streamlining manufacturing processes, enhancing product quality control, and strengthening supply chain resilience, setting Vicarious Surgical up for its next phase.
Mazzola’s retirement follows the recent departure of CFO William Kelly, leaving analysts questioning the leadership transitions amid challenges in the company’s surgical robot development. The company’s V1.0 surgical robot is still on track for FDA submission in early- to mid-2026 despite the changes in leadership.
